Neuropsychology, Psychotherapy, Education
Neuropsychology is concerned with the functions of the brain that form the basis of independent life: the planning of everyday activities, concentrating, remembering and perceiving things.
|Apart from the exact diagnosis and individual therapy plan, our therapy spectrum encompasses a psychological consultation as well as patient accompaniment – together with your relatives, if you wish.|
Exact diagnosis and an individual therapy plan
The first step in our treatment of neuropsychological functions is always to perform a comprehensive anamnesis and produce an exact diagnosis of the brain functions of our patients. This work is partially carried out with the aid of computers. After that we are ready to draw up an individual therapy plan.
The challenge of daily life
Our training group 'Integrated Cognitive Therapy' offers intensive, holistic neuropsychological therapy with a daily structure, where severely affected patients can re-learn how to live an independent life. Everyone takes on tasks according to their own abilities: from laying the table and buying bread for breakfast, to planning an entire meal, going shopping and doing the cooking. The focus of the cognitive training is always everyday activities.
Intensive individual training and the opportunity to share
When working to improve cognitive functions such as the ability to concentrate and remember things, and administering therapy to counteract visual field loss, we work either one-to-one or in groups, sometimes with the help of computers. Our approach is always tailored to meet the individual needs of the patients.
In therapy groups for specific disorders we integrate psycho-educative elements that provide information about the relevant illness, as well as working on developing compensatory strategies for everyday life. In small groups, the patients have the opportunity to share their thoughts on all topics relating to quality of life – both with each other and with experienced therapists.
Psychological advice and guidance
We offer every patient support, both one-to-one and as part of a group, during the psychological guidance that they receive about coming to terms with their illness and dealing with crises. We also have relaxation therapy groups in place as a preventative measure, and where necessary, we are able to involve the patient's friends and family in the process and provide them with comprehensive advice.
Our department also offers advice to patients about their ability to drive following their neurological disorder, and carries out examinations to assess their suitability.
We also carry out accompanying scientific research in neuropsychology and psychotherapy, so as to be able to use our findings in the development of new therapies.
Educational support for career related issues
Patients with queries regarding career related issues will receive advice from the educators within our team. We identify the patient's current skills and expertise, offer academic and vocational training courses, and develop and promote learning strategies, learning aids and compensatory techniques. Neuro-educational support is offered in cases of impaired performance in specific fields, such as reading, writing and arithmetic.
